Want to know what method is best for you have your chimney cleaned by DIY? There are four easy methods to consider.
The first method in cleaning your chimney is the top down method which requires you to be on top of your roof. Make sure to close off the opening to your fire place. You will then simply lower then raise the chimney brush to clean the inside of the walls. In order to gain length you will add rods to the chimney brush which also has metal flexible rods on it.
The second method is the bottom up which is a little more messy then the first method , make sure to have those drop clothes handy. You will simply repeat the steps in the top down method.
The third method is the weight method. You are required to do the same as the top down method with the flexible rods except this way instead of connecting the brush to rods you use rope, pull rings and weights. Assemble the rope and pull rings adding weight of 20 pounds to the brush, lowering and raising the brush to clean the walls.
The Duel line Method is the last method, you will need two people. A rope (and pull ring for holding onto if you like) is attached to both ends of the brush. One person takes the brush and rope setup onto the roof and, while holding on to one end of the rope, drops the setup down the chimney. The other person, who is in the house at the fireplace opening, grabs the other end of the rope. Each person takes turns pulling the rope, in order to work the brush up and down to clean the walls of the chimney. Since the fireplace opening cannot be sealed for this method, it can be quite messy. By using a lot of tarps and drop cloths you should be able to keep nearby flooring and furniture clean.
